The funeral ceremonies of His Eminence the Khenchen Dechen Dorje Rinpoche took place at Drakar Tashiding on July 18, 2012. The learned master and former principal of S.I.H.N.S. (Sheda) College, Deorali, had entered Thugdam on 9th July. The funeral procession was attended by countless Sikkimese from all walks of life.

SIBLAC reminded the devotees of the late Khenpo's inspiration, guidance and advice and "his zeal, keenness and concern to see progression and preservation of the Sikkimese lineage and tradition. He was gravely worried to see the never-ending human and materialistic interference in the sacred abodes and sites of Bayul Dremojong that were otherwise mentioned as very sacred in our religious scriptures."

NASBO declared, that "the late Khen Rinpoche would be remembered and recognized for his simplicity, perfection on Dharma philosophy and, above all, for his insight knowledge of Bayul Dremojong and its hidden treasures for all time to come."
