Organisations of Bhutia-Lepcha tribal communities appeal for restraint on the part of community members at the venomous political stand taken by the newly formed Sikkim Republican Party (SRP).
A press release informs that members of 11 organisations attended a meeting at Gangtok to deliberate on the recent political developments unfolding in Sikkim, "particularly with formation of Sikkim Republican Party and its anti-BL, anti-Sikkimese policies. A stream of apprehensions and queries are being witnessed from across Sikkim which is a clear indication of the falling law and order situation in this most sensitive border state", the release notes. The session was chaired by SIBLAC Convenor Tseten Tashi Bhutia.
"We appeal and urge our community members that there is no reason to panic with the rude lambasting of the new political party against Sikkimese people. We call our community members to restore back peace and security", said the organisations. They pointed out that sufficient protection is provided by the Sikkimese of Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepali origin under Article 371F of the Indian Constitution.
The meeting urged the authorities at New Delhi not to remain a mute spectators and act on such ruthless approaches of anti-Sikkimese elements. The organisations also called upon the government and members of the civil society to come forward and condemn SRP activities.
